Evergreen (Sonnet)
Evergreen
By Muriel Palanca
It’s been 1 year, 5 months, 2 weeks, 4 days,
But it’s not like I have been keeping track.
I convince myself that everything’s okay
But now and then, something slips through the cracks.
Ten seconds in my mind forever etched in stone
When you told me you can’t do this anymore,
Leaving me behind to face the world alone,
Giving me back when I was always yours.
I wonder where you are from time to time,
If she makes you laugh when she scrunches her nose,
Or if she touches your heart the way you did mine,
If all wounds are mended as the hourglass goes.
Every twelve minutes, it’s that night in December.
Hopefully tomorrow, I’ll forget to remember.
