As You Wish
My poems are usually self-explanatory but I want to give more context since the format is imperative for this piece: The title is a quote from the movie “The Princess Bride”. Buttercup would order around her farm boy, Wesley, and he would kindly respond, “As you wish.” to her demands. Over time, she learned it was his way of saying, “I love you.”
The poem itself is written as a rough draft (with strikethroughs) interspersed with the final draft of what I call a “reverse Dear John letter”. It’s meant to show what we MEAN vs what we actually SAY.
Thank you for reading!
